Valentine's Day
First of all Happy Valentine's Day to all lovers! Valentine's Day is known today as the day when the glory of love, and is named after St. Valentine, a Catholic saint
But Is it all just the way states and has this to do with paganism and consumerism?
Roman feasts
Even the ancient Romans celebrated the feast of the goddess Juno (Roman counterpart to the Greek Hera) on 14.2. The feast was such that men and women are putting their names in two different boxes and then they drew names. The two names that are connected must be connected as a couple during the festival and certain dates of the year. This celebrated fertility and the cycle of life.
The next day the ritual continued, and this celebration of Lupercalia in honor of Flora, the god of fertility. Men would go to a place where according to tradition Romulus and Remus, sucking she-wolf. There would sacrifice a goat, skinned it and ran around it simultaneously hitting women with small whips which are secured fertility.
Catholic saint Valentin
According to one room of the Roman Emperor Claudius II placed a ban on marriages due to too many young men who, because of marriage avoided army. The priest Valentine regardless of the ban held secret wedding and was sentenced to death. During the waiting executions thousands of letters are coming to him in a cell with descriptions how love is more important than the war. He was executed supposedly 269 years to 14.2.
There are two stories. There is also Valentin, arrested priest to help Christians. In captivity fell in love with the daughter of his jailer and the love notes signed with 'Your Valentine'. After Pope Julius I. over his grave was built basilica. He also executed on 14.2. The third story is about Valentine, bishop of Terni who was also executed on the same date and his relics are now in Terni.
Skeptics wonder quite logical question - what are the chances that there were three recognized saint Valentina and each of them is executed for love and to 14.2.? When we add all the Roman feast of fertility and love, the same day the story gets increasingly shaky foundations.
It is likely that this feast with Christmas, New Year and other feasts date (and sometimes normal) kršćanizirani pagan holiday.

Only the name Valentinus comes from the Latin word Valens - be strong, powerful, courageous. Bible similar epithets characterized by only one person "Cush begat Nimrod, who became the first man of power in the country. Before Jehovah was a mighty hunter. Now the Feast of Lupercalia we historically tie dating - Lupercus, the Roman god of which correlate with the Greek version of Pan (Fauna). The Greeks copied it from Phoenician versions under the name of Baal. Baal is in turn name for Nimrod, a mighty hunter and shooter Wolf, creator and god of Babylon. Thus, the link is the god of war, hunting and fertility.
Baal Babylon master, while his name to Chaldea means heart. Does this have anything to do with a heart for Valentine's Day? Another link is pleased Cupido indicating a desire for some and is also one of the variants of the young Nimrod, also with a bow and arrow, which unfortunately heart (Baal). It all coincidence or not, there is an interesting coincidence ...
Today is Valentine's Day feast for lovers whose date profits most corporate milieu that is all turned into a rather forced solemnity which is more important than the form of the true significance and celebration of love as the most important things in this reality. From the initial greeting cards and symbols sympathy to this gone wild and frantic competition who will buy whom better gift, consumerism is so, as well as for Christmas, enlarged his humanism, and unfortunately I have to say that we're for it partly to be blamed ...
